Hi, First of all the Rail Simulator team would like to apologise for the lack of responses and communication recently. We really do appreciate your patience during our ‘crunch’ period of finishing the development of Rail Simulator and making it the best experience that it can be. Recently there have been some significant management changes that we’d like to tell you about. Following the acquisition of Kuju by Catalis earlier in the year, F4G, who provide the financing for the development of Rail Simulator, have taken a much more active role on the project. With their resources behind us, we have the financial support we need to finish the project in the way that we want. You’ll probably also notice that the Rail Simulator representatives on the forum have also changed. We would like to thank Sabrina for all her hard work over the past 18 months. She has decided to move into a new role within Kuju, dealing with marketing of the company as a whole. This is therefore the perfect time to provide much closer connection between the development team and you, the rail simulator community. So to introduce myself, my name is Adam Lucas. I have been with the Rail Simulator team since September 2005, playing a key role in many areas of its development. I have and continue to have a very close interaction with many areas of Rail Simulators’ creation, and it is this access that I hope to share with the rest of you as we run up to release. You may have seen me on these forums on previous occasions, as I have paid much attention to discussions and topics many of you feel important. I have therefore been key in ensuring that as much of the communities wish as possible, has been implemented into Rail Simulator. It is now time to begin properly sharing with you what we have. Cheers Adam
I thought I would start simple, so here is some information about the camera views available in Rail Simulator. Many of you on here have asked if we will cater for more advanced camera options than you are already used to. Well in short, Yes. Although you will find many familiar views, we have made huge improvements to their functionality and more importantly, extended the range available to allow the user to see much more of the action. Here are some of the views available:3D Cab Camera - Using the mouse it is possible to fully explore the cab of your chosen train. This view also features the option to change position within the cab, as well as a zoom function allowing you to get a clearer view of the controls, displays or a closer look at something outside. The “Head-Out Camera†is also available under mouse and keyboard control.Coupling Camera – In Rail Simulator we have added the ability to view vehicle coupling from more than one angle. Combining this with the full 3D physics controlled system, should make this camera far more useful to the shunting fanatics. More about coupling at a later date though…Enhanced Track Side Camera – Although we have included the familiar Track Side Camera this additional mode allows you to position the camera yourself. This was in answer many comments from fans about the ability to move away from your train, either to find a good viewing spot, or to see what other trains in the area are up to. This camera is my personal favourite.Cheers KujuAdam
This is a subject I’ve seen discussed many times, so here are some details. Rail Simulator can be run in a Window or in Full Screen Mode. Featured in either is the option to select your screen size. You’ll be pleased to know (as Ive seen it asked a lot), wide screen options are available in the list. Also included are some graphical features such as ‘Soft Focus’. Many people have commented that Rail Simulator looks a bit Cartoon like. This is most likely down the use of our ‘Soft Focus’ option, so which ever style you prefer, this is now selectable. Cheers KujuAdam
Surrey UK, October 12th 2007 Rail Simulator, the new game now available from Electronic Arts, provides the most immersive train experience possible on the PC. In addition it allows users to create their own landscapes, trains and missions. However, things don’t stop there! For those wishing to take content creation to the next level, the developers of Rail Simulator are offering an additional suite of tools that enable professionals and experts to really get their hands dirty. These tools allow the creation and editing of the more complex elements of Rail Simulator, adding new content to the game and authoring scenarios, as well as providing more in-depth documentation about features, functions and facilities. However, you will need a high degree of specialist knowledge of railway systems, computer simulation and programming to use these tools effectively. These tools will be available, at no charge, but subject to a separate license agreement, from www.railsimulator.com on November 12th 2007.Rail Simulator Team
